Who’s Where? East Bay: Places to hear live music in Oakland, Berkley and Alameda for Sept. 2-3, 2011
You’re a music fan in the East Bay. All you need to know is who you can see play this weekend and where to see them. Who’s Where? is your weekly concert listing offering everything you want with nothing you don’t. For locations to all these venues, see the handy-dandy map at the bottom of the page. Got a venue/gig you don’t see listed here? Drop a line to bill [at] billchapin.net.
I get the impression that people avoid scheduling shows for Labor Day Weekend, on account of everybody being out of town. But everybody who leaves town has got to go somewhere, so what about all the folks who come to the East Bay from elsewhere? Don’t they deserve live entertainment?
Sure they do, and despite a schedule that’s a bit sparser than last week, our local concert venues have a big variety of offerings on Friday and Saturday. One of the biggest names to emerge in the contemporary folk scene, Girlyman is returning to the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse with all its close harmonies and pop sensibilities; fans of shrieking and blast beats can endure more than 30 bands at the grindcore-focused Deathfest! at the Oakland Metro Operahouse; and pioneering East Coast hardcore punk bands Reagan Youth and No Thanks bring their tour through 924 Gilman. Peruse the listings and you’ll find everything from pirate music to another guy named Dave Matthews who has a band.
