OK, so this is a little late going up this week. I know you’ve spent the last 48 hours wondering where this week’s concert listing was. The good news is that it’s late because I had an actual paying writing gig<\/em> that proved a higher priority than this voluntary labor of love.<\/p>\n

But enough about me, you procrastinators who still haven’t made plans yet for this weekend want to know what’s up in the East Bay tonight, right? Well, Thievery Corporation<\/strong> has not one but two shows at the Fox Theatre. (If trippy, globetrotting electronica is your thing, you might also be interested in Niyaz<\/strong> at Yoshi’s on Saturday.) The Mission Creek Music & Arts Festival is in full swing with showcases of independent music on both sides of the Bay Bridge all month, including one Eli’s Mile High Club on Friday featuring garage-rockers Bare Wires<\/strong>. This is also the weekend of the annual Berkeley Old Time Music Convention, which has brought the championship-winning, banjo-and-fiddle team of Mike Bryant and Joseph Decosimo<\/strong> to town for shows at The Freight & Salvage and Ashkenaz.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on the list, you’ll find thrash metal, authentic slide-guitar blues, hip-hop soul, tributes to Johnny Cash and Woodie Guthrie and an unusually high amount of psychedelic rock\u2014emphasis on the “high,” I guess.<\/p>\n
