Maybe I&#8217;ll visit thesaurus.com and use a different adjective every single month! That&#8217;ll be something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to last month&#8217;s rundown of new music outta Oakland and Berkeley and such, April&#8217;s batch of releases is not as instantly &#8230; beguiling. It&#8217;s going to take more time to let these songs rattle around in my noggin. But there&#8217;s potential. Listen for yourself to this month&#8217;s playlist. And then, because I can&#8217;t just share music without blabbing about what&#8217;s interesting about its backstory or chord progressions or whatever, I&#8217;m going to blab out the backstory or chord progressions or whatever for the first few songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/bndcmpr.co\/embed\/8bef56e9?orientation=landscape\" style=\"height:91px;width:100%;border:none;\" title=\"East Bay New Releases - Apr. 2023\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Curvlinear<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.om-records.com\/jazzual-suspects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Jazzual Suspects<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the <a href=\"https:\/\/xlr8r.com\/features\/colossus-honorary-oakland-funk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">backstory<\/a> on this one: Charlie Tate is a 6&#8217;8&#8243; English bass player who settled right into Oakland&#8217;s music scene in the early &#8217;00s, hanging at Kingman&#8217;s Lucky Lounge in the Grand Lake district, making friends with fellow musicians, sampling the mix blues and funk and jazz in the air (and on vinyl), funneling it into the hip-hop collective Colossus, putting stuff out on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.om-records.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Om Records<\/a>, and generally receiving a bunch of well-deserved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/omrecords\/photos\/a.443765527149\/10160396992897150\/?paipv=0&amp;eav=AfbqG7saK_JsLulOLtmv6YtJ-Mj8o6-MYK42JoXDlPWGo3Wie_N49j7VGkMDewtXKL4&amp;_rdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">acolades and recognition<\/a>. Lately he&#8217;s been releasing a track every few months via a solo project that combines samples and live instrumentation, and now the full album is finally here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=2567906424\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/track=2768312713\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thejazzualsuspects.bandcamp.com\/album\/curvlinear\">Curvlinear by The Jazzual Suspects<\/a><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>I would give songs numbers instead of names if I could. I can? Ok. Here I go, but not really.<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bhamilton.bandcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">B Hamilton<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s another generally well-regarded fellow who&#8217;s been banging around Oakland&#8217;s music scene for more than a decade. Ryan Christopher Parks earned his first <a href=\"https:\/\/eastbayexpress.com\/the-man-behind-b-hamilton-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">East Bay Express profile<\/a> in 2011, and he&#8217;s still putting out new, vaguely folky, ironic indie rock.
