The San Francisco Jazz Festival continues to bring impressive names to the Paramount Theater, including neo-soul\u00a0chanteuse and punctuation maverick Indie.Arie,<\/strong> who on Saturday presents the live version of her recent collaboration with Israeli composer Idan Raichel<\/strong> to Oakland’s art deco temple.<\/p>\n

The other big show of the weekend is at the Fox Theater, where Bryan Ferry<\/strong> of Roxy Music will be sharing his stylish, sophisticated pop.<\/p>\n

On the local level, I can recommend the punk ‘n’ funk of Damon & The Heathens<\/strong>\u2014with all its theremin noise and tight horns\u2014which I enjoyed at the\u00a0Eat Real Fest<\/a>\u00a0a few weeks ago and you can enjoy Friday at Cafe Van Kleef. I’ve also been enjoying the honky-tonkin’ rock of Calafia,<\/strong> which is part of an extremely eclectic show Friday at The Stork Club.\u00a0And from what little I’ve seen, fellow fans of The Avett Brothers will probably enjoy The Brothers Comatose<\/strong>‘s foot-stompin’ acoustic jamboree, and not just because both groups have “Brothers” in their names.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s most popular female singer, Grammy-winner Daniela Mercury<\/strong>; the current incarnation of Cuba’s pre-eminent charanga ensemble, Orquesta Arag\u00f3n<\/strong>;\u00a0an evening of experimental klezmer music; and something called\u00a0Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits.<\/strong><\/p>\n
