Tonight is the first Friday of the month, which means roving gangs of cultured young people roaming Oakland looking for entertainment once they’re finished gallery crawling. And if you’re too late to snatch up some floor space at the Stork Club’s burlesque show, you can’t do better than the concert at The Uptown. Not only is it being headlined by Foxtails Brigade<\/strong>\u2014the fantastic, classically trained, vaguely baroque, local folk\/chamber-pop group\u2014but there’s no cover.<\/p>\n

Speaking of burlesque, Saturday marks the five-year anniversary of the monthly partnership between brassy jazz and blues ensemble Blue Bone Express,<\/strong> performance troupe Hot Pink Feathers and quirky venue Cafe Van Kleef.<\/p>\n

New music venue Vitus is up and running in what had been the spectacularly unsuccessful Duke’s R&B near Jack London Square. Owned by Damon Gallagher (the titular Damon of punk ‘n’ funk band Damon & The Heathens), the bar started serving up food and shows just a few weeks ago. This weekend it has a healthy set of shows: On Friday roots-punk band The Stripminers,<\/strong> featuring members of The Donnas and X, is playing, and on Saturday the bar is the setting for Feed Your Soul,<\/strong> an ongoing series of soulful concerts curated by Amorpour the Lovebar<\/a>. (Mama Buzz Cafe also has a Feed Your Soul event on Friday.)<\/p>\n

In other news, Peter Bjorn & John have canceled their show at The New Parish. And if you were planning on catching Billy Corgan in all his self-important glory at the Fox Theater and don’t have tickets yet, tough luck: Tonight’s Smashing Pumpkins show is sold out.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on the list, you’ll find\u00a0underground metal sensation\u00a0Nuclear Rabbit,<\/strong>\u00a0an evening of experimental hip-hop, classical Indian sarode music and something called\u00a0Jimbo Trout & The Fish People.<\/strong><\/p>\n
